Crumbling roads! Bridges near collapse! Obsolete railways and levees desperately in need of repair! This is the most accurate report on the Transportation Infrastructure throughout the state of California today. Rebuilding and maintaining a transportation system that can keep pace with California’s growing population and economy is among the most compelling and critical challenges facing the state today. Investment in neglected and long-overdue transportation enhancements will help overcome decades of under-funding in of the state’s most important economic assets – its infrastructure. American River College is now activating an Apprenticeship Pipeline, in order to prepare a high skilled/high wage workforce to enter into the infrastructure trades and meet the needs of employers who are embarking on the major improvements all over the state.
CTE Community Collaborative Project
The recent passage of State Infrastructure Bonds totaling $50 Billion will provide not only the funding to repair and update the time-worn roads, bridges, levees and rail systems in California but it will also generate 200,000 jobs. The development of an Apprenticeship Pipeline is A KEY FACTOR in producing the highly trained workforce for the upcoming Transportation Infrastructure jobs.
Workforce Innovation Partnership
Soon, a shortage of labor and apprentices will occur due to retirement of baby-boomers, the older and more skilled members of the construction workforce, and the dwindling number of Career Technical Education programs available to high school youth and young adults. Working with local Workforce Investment partners will ensure recruitment and case management of prospective apprentices.
Supplemental CTE Community Collaborative Projects
Individuals in the following categories are most likely to be left out of economic rewards and experience barriers to receiving training when entering into the workforce. Individuals representing Special Populations will not be left out of the Apprenticeship Pipeline. Supplementary funding will augment expenses for the recruitment and provisions for Special Populations in the Transportation Infrastructure Trades.
