ARC 0, West Hills 4
The Beavers went down
0-1 five minutes into the match on a defensive error. The end of the
first half the game unraveled when two of ARC's athletes were
red-carded within a few moments of each other (captain Erick Lariz
and Selvin Bonilla). Coach Hansen reported that red-cards easily
could have been yellow rather than red and that may have
dramatically affected the play of the game as ARC had to play down
two players for the remainder of the game. The nine ARC players
remaining on the field did the best they could under the
circumstances, but conceded three second half goals to West Hills.

ARC 2, Santa Rosa 2
The Beaver played very
well and earned a 2-2 tie vs. Santa Rosa at Lucchesi Park in
Petaluma. ARC got of to a great start scoring a goal from David
Covarrubias mid way through the half. The Beavers came out flat in
the second half and SRJC quickly tied the score. Justin James scored
the go ahead goal around the 70th minute beating two SRJC
defenders with his tremendous speed. Santa Rosa responded by scoring
a smashing free kick to tie the match which ended 2-2. This was a
very entertaining and well played match! The Beaver definitely came
to play!
October 20, 2009
ARC 1, Butte 0
The Beavers get a 1-0
win over Butte. The Beavers had numerous chances in the first half
but were unable to convert and went into half time 0-0 and
frustrated. David Covarrubias scored the winning goal on a breakaway
mid way through the second half and held on for the much needed
victory.
October 16, 2009
ARC 6, Modesto 3
The Beaver put together
their best attacking soccer of the season beating Modesto 6-3. ARC
played impressively in the first half earning a well deserved 2-0
lead off of goals from David Ibrahim and Victor Montoya. The Beavers
came out flat in the second half and quickly gave up two goals and
Modesto tied the score. Fortunately, the Modesto keeper made a
costly mistake and David Ibrahim scored again putting the Beavers up
3-2. David Covarrubias extended the lead by scoring two more
goals giving the Beavers a 5-2 lead. Modesto made the game
interesting by scoring again but Covarrubias scored another goal to
earn a "hat trick" and seal the victory 6-3.
October 13, 2009
ARC 0, Sequoias 0
In a torrential
downpour, the Beavers get a shutout against a very strong Sequoias
team. Early in the first half, it looked like Jaime Estrada had the
go ahead goal when he beat the goalkeeper and passed it into the
empty net. Unfortunately, there was a small lake in front of the
goal which stopped the ball on the end line. The heavy rain and wind
continued throughout the match making for very sloppy and
unpredictable play. The players from both team, however, seemed to
enjoy the experience of playing in such extreme conditions.
October 9, 2009
ARC 0, Cosumnes River 1
In a closely contested
match the Beavers fall 0-1 to CRC in the 95th minute. The
ARC goalkeeper Derek Rauh saved a penalty kick in the first half.
Other than the penalty kick, the game provided very few
opportunities for either team. The deciding goal came off a well
executed corner kick header in extra time. A heartbreaking loss for
the Beavers against their local rival CRC.

ARC 0, Taft 3
The Beaver lose 3-0 at
Taft College on Tuesday, October 6. After a long five hour bus trip,
the Beavers managed to play well in the early stages of the match.
The Beavers earned a penalty kick in the 35 minute when David
Covarrubias was fouled. Unfortunately, the penalty kick was saved
and an opportunity to lead the match was squandered. Taft scored on
a defensive error just before the half and the Beavers were down
1-0. The second half the Beavers were outplayed and conceded two
more goals. In the closing minutes of the match, Covarrubias was
again fouled for a penalty kick which was also saved by the Taft
goalkeeper. Missing two penalty kicks and being without regular
starters Selvin Bonilla, Erick Lariz and Julio Lopez was too much to
overcome against the powerful Cougars. So far in the 2009 season the
Beavers have an overall record of 6-4-2 with a Big 8 Conference
record of 1-1-1, leaving them in a tie for third place with Cosumnes
River College.
September 29, 2009
ARC 2, Yuba 1
The Beavers put together
a very impressive performance at Yuba College on Tuesday, September
29. The Beavers got off to a great start maintaining ball possession
and creating a variety of scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, Yuba
scored first on their only shot of the half and the Beavers trailed
0-1. Continuing to play well, the Beavers pushed hard to even the
score before the half and succeeded when Jaime Estrada finished on a
smashing half volley. Just before the half, David Covarrubias had a
chance to put the Beavers ahead when he missed a penalty kick. In
the second half, Covarrubias made up for his penalty kick miss by
getting the winning goal off a beautiful long cross from Antonio
Villalobos. Jaime Estrada scored the insurance goal dribbling
through several Yuba players before finishing a rocket past the Yuba
goalkeeper.

ARC 2, San Joaquin Delta College 0
The
Beavers win 2-0 on September 25 at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton. The team had a
very strong first half, playing very attractive soccer and created
numerous goal scoring opportunities. Erick Lariz got the opening
goal off a clever back heel pass from Harry Bestman. Tendai
Mkandawire scored the second goal, bending the ball around the Delta
goalkeeper. The Beavers led 2-0 at the half and comfortably managed
the second half allowing 22 players the opportunity to play. Eddie
Ruelas recorded the shutout in goal.
September 22, 2009
ARC 7, Shasta College 0
The
Beavers win at Shasta College 7-0. Six minutes into the match Erick
Lariz dribbles a Shasta defender and finds Victor Montoya for an
easy finish inside the six yard box. The Beavers continued to create
chances, however, went into the half leading only 1-0. In the second
half the Beavers blew the game open scoring six goals. Second half
goal scorers for the Beavers were Adan Esqueda (2), Victor Montoya,
Jamie Estrada, Justin James, and Jhajad Obaldia.

2009
ARC 2, Santa Rosa Junior College 3
The
Beavers take a heartbreaking loss to conference rival Santa Rosa.
The Beavers scored first when Erick Lariz scored a beautiful goal,
beating the SRJC goalkeeper from the top of the penalty area. Just
before the half, Santa Rosa converted on a penalty kick to
equalize. Just two minutes into the second half, Santa Rosa went
ahead on a long range shot that squeaked in at the near post.
About the middle of the second half, the ARC goalkeeper mishandled
a routine ball and SRJC is up 3-1. The Beavers created numerous
opportunities and converted one late when David Covarrubias
scored. The Beavers played well overall, but were unable to overcome
their errors and missed opportunities.
September 15,
2009
ARC 1, Contra
Costa College 0
The
Beavers scored early in the first half when Harry Bestman skillfully
played the ball through to Erick Lariz, who calmly finished on a one
on one with the CCC goalkeeper. Contra Costa outplayed the Beavers much of
the second half, but the Beaver defense held up to secure the
win. ARC goalkeeper Hulises Muro made an outstanding save late in
the second half when it looked like CC was going to equalize.
September 11,
2009
ARC 0, Modesto Junior College 0
The
Beavers first Big Eight conference match ended in a frustrating tie.
After a very evenly played first half, the Beaver came out in the
second half with much more energy and outplayed Modesto but failed
to convert on numerous opportunities. Stefano Baez and Selvin
Bonilla provided stellar defense for the Beavers all game.
Hartnell
Tournament- Cerritos College, September 4-6
September 6
ARC 1, San Francisco City College 1
The
Beavers played their best game of the year against a very strong San
Francisco team. The beavers dominated the midfield with outstand
play from both Erick Lariz and Jamie Estrada. ARC got a second half
goal from David Covarrubias but SFCC was able to equalize in extra
time. Although the game ended in a time, the tournament rules sent
the two teams into a penalty kick shoot out. ARC goalkeeper Eddie
Ruelas made one save and all five of the Beavers converted on their
kicks. The PK goal scorers for the Beavers were Erick Lariz,
Francisco Corona, David Covarrubias, Jamie Estrada, and Adric Jope.
With the PK shootout win the Beavers were consolation champion
winners for the tournament.
September 5, 2009
ARC 1, Allen Hancock 0.
The
Beavers had a very solid defensive effort and got a late goal from
Bryan “Chino” Garcia to secure the win. This was an exceptionally
important win for the team’s confidence after the demoralizing loss
against Cerritos. Stefano Baez played his first game at the center
back position. He provided much needed speed, toughness and an
ability to win head balls for the Beaver defense.
September 4, 2009
ARC 0, Cerritos 6
The
Beavers get crushed by the 2008 State Champions. The only positive
thing that came from the game was that the Beavers were tested early
in the season and were able to learn from their mistakes
