Sacramento City 10, ARC 9

16-26 Overall

4-20 Conference

The Beavers opened up a 6-0 lead after six innings, but—in a fitting conclusion to a frustrating season—two unearned runs with two outs in the 9th led to the Panthers’ win.  Steve Rinaudo threw a shutout over the first six innings and added two hits in five at bats to lead the offense.  Jason Lomascola also had two hits and two RBI.  In the 8th, ARC had runners at first and third and put on a double steal.  Steve Rinaudo scored on the back end of the steal, and in the next at bat, Joe Finn drove in another run to give the Beavers a 9-7 advantage going into the final inning.  With two outs and two on of a one-run game, a throwing error on a ground ball brought home two runs and the win for SCC.

Santa Rosa 2, ARC 0

16-25 Overall

4-19 Conference

Jose Ramirez threw a complete game, only the second this season by an ARC pitcher, but two Bear Cub runs in the sixth was enough to hand him the loss.  Ramirez gave up only five hits and struck out three in his eight innings of work, but the ARC offense could not produce a run, totaling only five hits on the afternoon.

Cosumnes River 7, ARC 4

16-24 Overall

4-18 Conference

The Beavers fell behind after a four-run first inning and could not make up the difference in the loss to the first-place Hawks.  Steve Rinaudo had two hits in four trips to the plate to give him a team-leading 54 for the season, Chris Rinaudo drove in a run to give 30 this year, tops on the squad, and Ryan Thornton had a steal to improve to a team-best 10.  Braden Bates threw two innings of scoreless relief.

ARC 18, Delta 6

16-23 Overall

4-17 Conference

The Beavers broke an eight-game losing streak by exploding for a season-high 19 hits en route to routing the Mustangs.  A potent offense combined with solid pitching from starter and winner Jose Ramirez and two innings of shutout relief by Andy Biesanz.  Steve Rinaudo triggered an offense that had struggled to produce timely hits during the month of April by driving in seven runs on three hits, two of which were home runs.  Ryan Thornton and Chris Kidd each had three hits, and Chris Rinaudo, Anthony Savage, Joe Finn, and Jason Lomascola each added two hits.  Thornton, Savage, and Finn each finished with two RBI.  The ARC offense had five extra base hits; in addition to Steve Rinaudo’s two homers, Kidd, Finn, and Chris Neshem each contributed a double.

Diablo Valley 12, ARC 8

 15-23 Overall

 3-17 Conference

The Beavers came alive offensively, but the Vikings produced more runs to earn the Big 7 victory.  ARC had 16 hits, its second best output for the season, and had seven players with multiple hits, but still the Beavers were unable to outscore their opponent.  Joe Finn delivered the biggest blows, belting two home runs to give him a team-leading five for the season.  Steve Rinaudo collected three hits to lead the barrage, and Chris Rinaudo, Ryan Thornton, Anthony Savage, and Wade Majewski each finished with a pair of hits.

Delta 3, ARC 2

15-22 Overall

 3-16 Conference

The Beavers added a new angle to a season overflowing with close losses when Steve Rinaudo threw eight innings of no-hit ball before surrendering two unearned runs in the bottom of the 8th against the Mustangs.  With two outs in the inning, Delta combined two walks, one hit batter, and an error to bring across the two runs.  The Mustangs scored another in their final at bat to win the game.  Chris Neshem, Andy Harris, and Ryan Thornton each finished with two hits for ARC, and Joe Finn doubled to lead an offense that out hit the opponent 9-2.

Sierra 6, ARC 3

The Beavers jumped out to an early lead over the Wolverines, but were unable to hold on in the Big 7 loss.  Chris Neshem had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs—giving him a team-leading 10 RBI in conference play.  Steve Rinaudo also finished with two hits, and Anthony Savage added a double.

The Beavers and the Hawks slugged it out, but CRC prevailed despite five home runs by ARC.  Chris Rinaudo and Wade Majewski each had three hits, and both belted two home runs.  Joe Finn added his third home run of the season, making Finn, Majewski, Chris Rinaudo, and Ryan Thornton tied for the team lead at three apiece.  Steve Rinaudo also had three hits against the Hawks, who out hit ARC 15-10.

Butte 11, ARC 9

15-19 Overall

3-13 Conference

The Beavers’ offense came alive in the non-conference meeting with the Roadrunners, but an 8th inning grand slam by Butte erased ARC’s lead and led to the loss.  Andy Harris collected three hits in the game while Chris Rinaudo and Andy LeDuc each had two hits.  Rinaudo drilled a three-run double in the 2nd and finished with four RBI, and LeDuc added his first collegiate home run and a double that produced three RBI.

Diablo Valley 6, ARC 5

15-18 Overall

3-13 Conference

The Beavers got down early and chipped their way back into the regularly scheduled game with the Vikings.  Trailing 5-0 after three innings, ARC rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd and three more in the 6th, capped by Ryan Thornton’s RBI single to even the score.  Thornton finished with two hits in the game.  Jake Hower came on to pitch in the 7th but was tagged with the loss when a bad hop grounder was followed by a single and a close play at the plate. Despite the unlucky bounces, Hower pitched well in his 2 1/3 innings, as did Jason Ornellas, who shut down DVC after coming in with two outs in the third.  He allowed no hits in 3 1/3 innings on the mound.

Diablo Valley 6, ARC 3

15-17 Overall

3-12 Conference

In the continuation of a game that was suspended due to rain on March 25 at DVC, the Beavers were unable to make up the 4-2 deficit.  Picking up in the top of the 7th inning, the Vikings scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the 7th and another in the 8th despite the team’s first complete game of the year by Brad Simmons.  He tossed all eight innings, allowing just seven hits and striking out seven.  Chris Neshem and Ryan Thornton each had two hits for ARC, and one of Thornton’s was his team-leading fourth triple.

Sacramento City 9, ARC 6

15-16 Overall

3-11 Conference

The Beavers rallied for five runs in the final two innings, but it was not enough as the Panthers were able to hold on to the Big 7 win.  Andrew LeDuc and Casey Cull came on in relief to steady some shaky starting pitching, which gave up eight runs in the fist six innings.  The offensive highlights for ARC were provided by Ryan Thornton and Chris Rinaudo.  In the 8th, Chris Rinaudo drove in a run with a double and then was brought home on a single by his brother, Steve.  The three-run 9th was capped by Thornton’s two-run homer, his team-leading third of the season.

ARC 7, Santa Rosa 4

15-15 Overall

 3-10 Conference

The Beavers broke a nine-game losing streak by erupting for six runs in the 3rd and then received eight strong innings from starter Brad Simmons en route to the win over the Bear Cubs.  Simmons allowed only six hits in his eight-inning stint, improving his season record to 3-3.  Robert Butler came on in the 9th and recorded his fourth save.  Chris Rinaudo went 4-for-4 at the plate and Steve Rinaudo had three hits in four appearances.  Joe Finn and Chris Neshem each finished with two hits, including Neshem’s two-RBI single which triggered the six-run 3rd inning.

Cosumnes River 6, ARC 0

14-15 Overall

 2-10 Conference

The Beavers managed only two hits against the Hawks, and the lack of offense—combined with five errors—wasted another solid pitching performance from Steve Rinaudo.  Rinaudo went seven innings and gave up seven hits, but he struck out seven and all three runs he allowed were unearned.  Five of the six runs allowed by ARC pitchers were unearned.  Andy Biesanz blooped a single on the first pitch of the game, but the team collected only one more the entire game.  The shutout was the first for ARC in 71 games.

april 8, 2006

Sierra 4, ARC 2

 14-14 Overall

2-9 Conference

The Beavers saw another solid pitching performance wasted due to a lack of timely hitting as they fell to the Wolverines.  Brad Simmons threw seven strong innings, but the ARC offense was unable to produce runs when runners got in scoring position. Chris Rinaudo and Ryan Thornton each had two hits and an RBI, and Steve Rinaudo added a triple, but it was not enough as the Beavers squandered scoring opportunities.

april 6, 2006

Delta 4, ARC 2

14-13 Overall

 2-8 Conference

The Beavers came up with two runs in the 7th to even the score against the Mustangs, but things fell apart in the top of the 10th.  Two consecutive errors on routine pop ups resulted in two unearned runs for Delta in the top half of the innings, and then the Mustangs’ center fielder ended the game with a great diving catch on a line drive off the bat of Steve Rinaudo with two runners on base.  Jose Ramirez struck out 10 and allowed only one earned run in his seven innings, and Robert Butler was equally dominant, striking out six and surrendering only one hit in three innings of relief.  Andy Harris led the offense with two hits, and Chris Rinaudo contributed a double.

Sierra 10, ARC 9

14-12 Overall

2-7 Conference

In the continuation of a game scheduled for March 16, the Beavers surrendered three runs in the bottom of the 10th to fall to the Wolverines.  ARC broke a 7-7 tie in the top of the 10th but gave them both back plus one with two outs in Sierra’s final at bat.  The Beavers put up a four-run 5th inning behind Ryan Thornton’s two-run single and an RBI double by Chris Rinaudo.  Thornton went three for five in the game, finishing with two RBI and two stolen bases.  Joe Finn added two hits, and Chris Neshem had a stolen base and two runs scored.

Sierra 4, ARC 2

14-11 Overall

2-6 Conference

The Beavers got some power from Ryan Thornton and some solid pitching from Steve Rinaudo, but the combination proved to be too little against the Wolverines.  Thornton blasted a two-run homer to tie the game in the 6th, and Rinaudo threw seven strong innings, allowing only two earned runs.  He struck out six in the game.

Sacramento City 3, ARC 2

14-10 Overall

2-5 Conference

Despite having runners on in seven of the nine innings, the Beavers were unable to provide enough run support for Steve Rinaudo and fell to the Panthers.  Rinaudo, who also helped himself at the plate with two hits and an RBI, had a no-hitter going for five innings and got one out in the 9th before leaving the game with the lead.  But the bullpen could not close out the game and Rinaudo got tagged with his first loss of the season in six decisions.  Sac City got the game-winning hit with two outs in its final at bat.  Andy Harris produced ARC’s only other run with a sacrifice fly in the 7th.

march 22, 2006

Delta 9, ARC 2

 14-9 Overall

2-4 Conference

The Beavers pitching staff struggled with the Mustangs as seven ARC pitchers combined to hit eight Delta batters and allow eight hits in the loss.  The Beavers’ offense collected nine hits but only two runs as they played catch up the entire game.  Anthony Savage had three hits in four trips to the plate, Andy Harris finished with two hits in three plate appearances.  Chris Kidd drove in a run with a double.

Santa Rosa 6, ARC 5

14-8 Overall

2-3 Conference

In the regularly scheduled game, the Beavers built a lead only to see it wiped away with a two-run home run by the Bear Cubs in the 9th.    Jose Ramirez had a quality start, going seven innings and striking out nine, only to watch the bullpen squander a two-run lead, giving up three runs in the final two at bats.  Jason Lomascola hit his first collegiate homer in the second to get the offense untracked.  ARC scored twice in the 5th on a Chris Neshem single, and the Beavers scored two more in the 6th when Joe Finn singled in a pair.

ARC 7, Santa Rosa

14-7 Overall

2-2 Conference

In the completion of the suspended game started in Santa Rosa on March 7, reliever Jake Hower recorded his fourth save of the year and the Beavers hung on for the win.  Steve Rinaudo got the victory to improve his record to 5-0.  ARC needed just three outs to complete the game and earn a 7-5, but the Bear Cubs scored once in the 9th and threatened to tie the game until Hower shut them down.  The Beavers scored four runs in the 1st inning to jump out to a big lead.  Joe Finn had three hits, two of which were doubles, and drove in three runs.  Chris Rinaudo finished with a couple of hits, and Chris Neshem drove in two runs with a double.  Ryan Thornton added a triple.

Diablo Valley 4, ARC 1

13-7 Overall

1-2 Conference

The Beavers received another strong outing from right hander Brad Simmons, but they ran into even more dominating performance from the Vikings’ starter, who held the Beavers hitless until the final inning.  Simmons threw 8 2/3 innings and struck out seven, but again was a hard-luck loser in the contest.  In the 9th, Anthony Savage broke up the no-hit bid with a clean single to left for ARC’s only hit in the game.  He scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Bryan McDonough.

march 4, 2006

ARC 3, Sacramento City 2

13-6 Overall

1-1 Conference

The Beavers got stellar pitching from Brad Simmons and Jake Hower as they evened their Big 7 record with the win over the Panthers.  Simmons, now 2-0 on the season, went eight innings, compiling eight strikeouts and allowing only two earned runs.  Hower, who picked up his third save of the year by striking out two in the final frame, earned his 12th career save, moving him to the top of the all-time list.  ARC picked up a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, but SCC evened the score with two runs in the top half of the 7th—the only inning in which the Panthers were able to get a runner to third base.  In the bottom of the inning, Steve Rinaudo lined a double to score his brother Chris for what proved to be the game-winning run.  Steve Rinaudo finished with three hits in three trips to the plate, driving in two of ARC’s runs.  Joe Finn also went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Bryan McDonough added two hits, including a double.

Cosumnes River 15, ARC 5

12-6 Overall

0-1 Conference

The Beavers opened conference play on the road and fell victim to three big innings by the Hawks’ offense.  CRC built an early lead that the Beavers could not overcome.  Wade Majewski highlighted a three-run 3rd inning for ARC with a single that produced a pair of runs, and Chris Neshem belted a solo home run in the top of the 4th inning to bring the Beavers to within one run at 5-4.  But the Hawks blew the game open with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, and then they added two in the 5th and four more in the 6th.  Andrew LeDuc and Anthony Savage each contributed a double.

ARC 3, Contra Costa 1

 12-5 Overall

The Beavers concluded their preseason schedule by topping the Comets in a game originally scheduled for Feb. 27.  Jake Hower got the start and the win after going six scoreless innings and striking out six.  Preston Vancil gave up a run in his inning of relief, but he picked up his first career save.  Contra Costa’s run, which came in the bottom of the 9th, was the first allowed by ARC pitchers in 24 innings.  Bryan McDonough and Chris Kidd each went two-for-four, and Chris Rinaudo drove in the first two runs to lead the ARC offense.  The final insurance run came in the top half of the 9th when Jon Mauerer brought in a run on a safety squeeze.

ARC 17, West Valley 0

11-5 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers posted season highs in runs (17), hits (18), and doubles (6) as they ran their record to 4-0 in red jerseys.  Chris Rinaudo tied a school record with three doubles in one game, and he moved into fifth on the all time doubles list with 23.  He finished the game with four hits and two RBIs.  Steve Rinaudo improved his record to 4-0 by throwing five strong innings en route to the lopsided win, the first shutout of the year for ARC.  Ryan Thornton drove in two runs with hits two hits, which included his first home run of the year.  Larry Lomascola collected two hits and two RBIs, but the big damage was done by Wade Majewski, who had three runs batted in, and Anthony Savage, who contributed two doubles and five RBIs.

ARC 3, West Valley 1

10-5 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers and the Vikings locked into another good pitching duel in the first game of a doubleheader.  Jose Ramirez got the win after pitching into the 7th inning, allowing only one earned run while striking out seven.  Robert Butler pitched a scoreless 2 1/3 innings to earn the save.  Steve Rinaudo led the offense with three hits, and Ryan Thornton added two more.  In the first, Chris Rinaudo’s RBI single gave ARC the early lead, and the Beavers added one more in the 3rd when Steve Rinaudo followed a Chris Neshem double with a two-out hit.  The final run came in the 5th when Chris Kidd doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score on Anthony Savage’s single.

West Valley 4, ARC 1

 9-5 Overall

The Beavers took a talented Vikings squad into extra innings before West Valley’s Jeff Stream hit a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the 10th.  ARC scored its only run in the 1st inning on an RBI single by Chris Rinaudo, who went three for five on the day. Chris Neshem added two hits and stolen base.  Brad Simmons went eight strong innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out six, in what proved to be a great pitching duel.

february 22, 2006

ARC 10, Cañada 4

 9-4 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers put up a five-run 6th inning as they pulled away from the Colts in the non-conference win.  Wade Majewski had two hits and two RBIs to pace the offense, and Steve Rinaudo, Chris Rinaudo, and Andrew LeDuc each contributed a double.  LeDuc’s double hit third base and then went down the left field line to ignite the rally in the 6th.  Curtis Wills went six innings, giving up only two earned runs, and Casey Cull threw one shutout inning in his first college appearance.  Preston Vancil pitched the 7th in relief and had two strikeouts.

february 18, 2006

ARC 7, Sequoias 2

8-4 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers gave up four hits and two runs in the first to the Giants, but then allowed only four hits the rest of the game as they rolled past COS.  This was the first meeting between the two teams since 1993, and, perhaps more notably, it marked the third consecutive win this season when the Beavers are wearing their red jerseys.  Steve Rinaudo pitches seven strong innings en route to earning his third win against no losses this year.  He also helped his own cause with two hits and an RBI.  Rinaudo, Ryan Thornton, Andy Harris, and Andy Biesanz each finished with two hits for ARC.  Thornton’s big hit was a fourth-inning triple to right that turned into a run on a Giants’ error.  Also in the 4th, Biesanz had a two-run double; he finished with three RBI for the game.

february 16, 2006

Merced 9, ARC 8

 7-4 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers gave up six runs in the 8th as the Blue Devils came from behind to get the win.  ARC had built a five-run lead on a potent offense and solid pitching from Brad Simmons, who left the game with one out in the 8th and an 8-3 lead.  Merced had nine consecutive runners reach base in the pivotal inning.  Wade Majewski, Chris Rinaudo and Andy Biesanz each had two hits.  Majewski had a home run—a three-run blast in the 1st—and drove in four runs and Rinaudo belted two doubles and knocked in a pair of runs.  Ryan Thornton had two stolen bases.

ARC 12, Solano 11

   7-3 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers outlasted the Falcons to avenge the season-opening loss at Solano.  Both teams scored eight runs in the 6th inning, but it took ARC extra innings to earn the victory in a game in which the two teams combined for 23 runs, 29 hits, and six errors.  The Beavers’ offense was led by Chris Rinaudo, who had three hits in four trips to the plate, driving in four runs.  Ryan Thornton and Chris Neshem each had two hits and an RBI, and Anthony Savage also had two hits, one a double, and two RBI, including the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th.  Jason Ornellas went 5 2/3 innings before the roof caved in with two outs in the sixth.  Solano strung together seven consecutive hits before ARC committed an error, and then the Falcons followed with two more hits to bring across eight runs.  But the Beavers answered in the bottom of the frame, as nine straight hitters reached base, and ARC was able to retake the lead.  Robert Butler pitched the final three innings to get the win.  Wade Majewski led off the inning with a double.  Andy Harris followed with a ground out to first, advancing pinch runner Jason Lomascola to third, and setting up Savage’s game winning hit.

ARC 6, Feather River 5

6-3 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers bounced back in the second game, edging the Golden Eagles after dousing a serious threat in the top half of the 9th.  The offense was led by Bryan McDonough, who reached base four times, including a key two-run single in the 6th. Steve Rinaudo had three more hits—giving him 9 in 12 at bats over the weekend—and delivered an RBI-single with two strikes and two outs in the bottom of the 6th. Chris Rinaudo added two hits, and Chris Kidd had an RBI-double in the 2nd.  Steve Rinaudo started on the mound, throwing 71/3 innings and allowing only one earned run.  Robert Butler picked up his second save of the year by silencing an FRC rally.  With one out in the 9th, the Golden Eagles loaded the bases with two walks and a single, but Butler got their No. 2 hitter to pop out and the No. 3 hitter to ground out to third to end the game.

Feather River 10, ARC 6

5-3 Overall

 0-0 Conference

The Golden Eagles accomplished a rare feat in the first game of the doubleheader by scoring 10 runs—none of the direct result of a base hit.  FRC used sacrifice flies, hit batters, a bases loaded walk, and fielder’s choices to pile up the runs.  ARC coach Doug Jumelet pointed out the unusual box score for FRC, noting that the Golden Eagles earned the runs, but just went about it in a unique fashion.  For the Beavers, the Rinaudo brothers accounted for much of the offense as Steve was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double, and Chris went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.  ARC led 6-3 after five innings, but three FRC runs in both the 6th and the 7th proved too much for the Beavers to overcome.

february 10, 2006

ARC 5, Shasta 1

5-2 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers trailed 1-0 for three innings but broke through with a 3-run 4th inning and then finished off the Knights by adding two more in the 6th.  Anthony Savage brought in the first run on a hit-and-run play with runners on first and second and then scored another runner on a sacrifice fly to come up with two key RBIs in the game.  Steve Rinaudo went 3 for 4 with a stolen base, Ryan Thornton roped an RBI double, and Andy Biesanz had two hits and two walks to lead the offense.  Jose Ramirez earned the win after going five innings and striking out six while walking none.  Ramirez is now 2-1 with a 1.38 ERA for the season.  Jason Ornellas picked up where Ramirez left off, throwing four innings in relief, giving up only two hits and striking out four.

february 9, 2006

Lassen 4, ARC 3

4-2 Overall

 0-0 Conference

The Beavers failed to come up with the big hit at the right time as they let one slip away to the previously winless Cougars.  Twice ARC had the bases loaded with one out and failed to bring home a run, and a first and third situation left another two runners stranded.  Despite the lack of timely hitting, the Beaver were able to take the lead in the bottom of the 8th due to solid pitching by Brad Simmons and poor fielding by Lassen.  Simmons went seven strong innings, allowing only one earned run on five hits and recording five strikeouts.  In the home half of the 8th, Lassen’s shortstop committed two errors to give the Beavers a 2-1 advantage, but they gave up three runs in the top of the 9th on two walks and three singles.  A two-out, bases-loaded single was the big blow in the inning.  ARC responded with a run in the bottom of the 9th on a single by Wade Majewski, who had three hits in three trips to the plate.  Joe Finn went 2-for-5 in the game.

MODESTO TOURNAMENT-FEBRUARY 3 AND 4, 2006

february 4, 2006

ARC 8, Modesto 7

3-1 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers went 3-0 over the weekend to win the Modesto Junior College MTC Distributing Tournament.  ARC clinched the championship with a 6-4 comeback win over the host Pirates.  Freshman pitcher Steve Rinaudo threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing just five hits in gaining his first college victory.  Modesto struck three times in the 3rd inning thanks to an error on a bunt by Rinaudo, a passed ball, and a base hit by Modesto.  The Beavers bats were silent until the 7th inning when they struck for five runs on three walks, three singles and a pair of errors by the Modesto shortstop.  Andy Biesanz came on in relief of Steve Rinaudo and threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four in the process.  Jake Hower came on to strike out the last batter of the game and record his 11th career save, which ties him for first on the Beavers’ all-time list with Jim Rudolph (‘93) in the save category.

ARC 1, Lassen 1

3-1 Overall

ARC and Lassen concluded their 1-1 suspended game prior to Thursday’s regularly scheduled contest, and Jeff Robinson picked up his first win of the year.  Curtis Wills three nine innings on Saturday and only gave up one unearned run, but Robinson came on to pitch the final two innings five days later and earned the victory when the Beavers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th.  Chris Nesham led off the inning by reaching second on a two base error and came around to score one pitch later on another Cougar miscue.  With Andy Harris batting, Lassen tried to intentionally walk him, but the first pitch was too close and Harris dropped a bunt that was then overthrown at first, allowing Nesham to cross the plate.

ARC 8, Modesto 5

2-1 Overall

0-0 Conference

The Beavers beat the Pirates for their first time since 2002.  Both teams swung the bats very well off of the other team’s ace pitcher, combining for 25 hits between the two.  Modesto scored first against Brad Simmons by plating two runs in the bottom of the 3rd, but the Beavers answered back by scoring in the next four innings, including two in the top of the 4th on a two-run single by Ryan Thornton.  Chris Rinaudo led off the 5th with a solo home run to left, his first of the year.  The Beavers added one more in the 5th and one in the 6th before scoring three times in the top of the 7th, thanks to a two-run single over a drawn in infield by Chris Nesham and an RBI single by Thornton.  The Pirates made it interesting by scoring twice in the bottom of the 8th after three walks by Beaver reliever Preston Vancil and a bases loaded walk by closer Jake Hower, who went on to record his first save of the year.

ARC 7, Lassen 1

1-1 Overall

0-0 Conference

ARC won the opening game of the tournament thanks to some late, timely hitting and a triple play turned in the 4th inning to give Jose Ramirez his first collegiate win.  The Beavers were leading 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th when Lassen’s leadoff hitter reached on an error by shortstop Steve Rinaudo.  The next batter singled which put runners on first and third.  Lassen’s next hitter then lined a ball to left which was caught by Andy Harris, who threw a strike to catcher Chris Kidd (Mesa Verde) for the second out.  Kidd then looked up to find the runner on first trying to advance to second, but Kidd’s throw beat the runner and second baseman Larry Lomascola put the tag on for the third out.  The Beavers were leading 3-1 entering the 9th inning, but three walks and back to back doubles by Joe Finn and Jason Lomascola put the Beavers up by six runs.  Finn had a solo home run in the 7th inning, his second of the year, and ended up with two hits while Jason Lomascola had three.

Solano 8, ARC 7

The Beavers gave up a five-run second inning to the Falcons and fell short in their comeback despite some timely run production from Joe Finn and Steve Rinaudo. Finn hit a two-run home run in the seventh, finishing with two hits, two runs, and two runs batted in during the game. Rinaudo also had a two-hit game, including a double in his first at bat to set up a run. Ryan Thornton had three hits, and Bryon McDonough added two to lead the offense. Anthony Savage led off the eighth with a double and was followed by an Andrew LeDuc single, but the Beavers were unable to capitalize as the next three batters failed to bring home the tying run.
