Are you interested in becoming a probation officer? The Probation Officer Core Course, offered through the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center (SRPSTC) may be the beginning of a new career for you. This Commission on Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) mandated course is for the newly hired probation officer.
Course Highlights
The Probation Officer Core Course is an intensive academy-model course that follows the STC mandated regimen. The course offers 179.5 hours of training in a multitude of probation areas. This course offers training in:
Roles and responsibilities
The adult and juvenile criminal justice system
Legal foundations
Use of laws, regulations and codes
Indicators of psychological problems
Restraint and control techniques
The Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center employs instructors from surrounding agencies to ensure students are exposed to a wide range of experiences. Our instructors are highly trained and are recognized experts within their field. Many hold supervisory or command positions within his or her agency.
College Credit
Probation Officer Core Course graduates are awarded 5 semester units of credit at American River College. Fees are $26 per unit plus a materials fee for a course manual and required supplies. Financial aid may be available for qualified students.
