Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course

Certified by the California Standards and Training for Corrections (STC)

Interested in a career in juvenile corrections or at a juvenile hall? The Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course may be the start of your new career. This mandated Commission on Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) certified course is for newly hired juvenile correctional officers, or the motivated individual who desires a career in this field. 

Course Highlights

The Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course is an intensive academy-model course that follows the STC mandated regimen. The course offers 156 hours of training over a period of 4 weeks. This course offers training in:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a juvenile correctional officer
  • The juvenile criminal justice system
  • Report writing
  • Management of assaultive behavior
  • Indicators of substance abuse, gang affiliation, medical issues
  • Security and supervision
  • Crisis intervention
  • CPR/First Aid

The Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center employs instructors from surrounding agencies to ensure that students are exposed to a wide range of experiences. Our instructors are highly trained and are recognized experts within their field. Many hold supervisory or command positions within their agency. 

College Credit

Probation Officer Core Course graduates are awarded 5 semester units of credit at American River College. Fees are $20 per unit plus a materials fee for a course manual and required supplies. Financial aid may be available for qualified students.
