Basic Law Enforcement Academy
(Tuesday through Thursday 5:00pm to 10:00pm; Saturdays 8:00am to 4:00pm)
Area residents interested in becoming a law enforcement officer or investigator, or working in the criminal justice field, are invited to test for admission to the Basic Law Enforcement Academy which begins in October 2007. The Academy is offered by the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center and administered by American River College. Prospective students must pass a written examination, essay exam and physical agility test. In addition, prospective students must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid CA driver license, have a medical clearance, and Dept. of Justice fingerprint clearance. The top 60 applicants who pass the selection process will be placed on an eligibility list and invited to the next academy class. Graduates receive 12 semester units of credit from American River College. The Academy is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. For more information, please call the Academy Office at (916) 570-5016, Tuesday through Thursday 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm; Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
