American River College
Child Development Training Consortium

American River College participates in a special statewide grant program for students who are employed in licensed child care facilities. This project is funded by the California Department of Education and is aimed at preparing more teachers to work in the early childhood education field. Through this program students can:

  • be reimbursed for their enrollment fees for all classes they take at ARC
(with the exception of PE classes),
  • receive an additional educational stipend, and
  • borrow textbooks through our loan program.

The reimbursement of enrollment fees applies only to students who do not already receive a grant, fee waiver, or other form of financial aid. All students, however, are eligible for the additional stipend. This money, which varies in its amount from semester to semester depending on the number of students enrolled in the program, can be used by the student to assist in their educational expenses. Participants are also eligible to borrow ECE textbooks for an entire semester through our textbook loan program. While we do have most books for all the ECE classes, they are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students need to turn in their Participant Profile for the Child Development Training Consortium each semester to request books for loan.

To be eligible for this program, students must be taking courses at ARC that count towards a Child Development Permit (this includes classes in the ECE department as well as any General Education course), and they must be employed in a licensed child care and development program. These would include a preschool, child care center, and a family child care home.

Students must fill out a form called the "Participant Profile" for each semester that they meet the qualifications. These forms are usually available from any of the ECE instructors, as well as in the Health and Education division office (Room 770), and in the hallway in the lower library.

Students who meet the qualifications to participate in the Child Development Training Consortium program at American River College are notified, usually by mail, about the middle of the semester. Checks are usually generated after the middle of the semester, and students pick these up at the business counter in the Administration building on campus. If you have any questions about the Child Development Training Consortium program, please feel free to ask Jan DeLapp, Coordinator of the CDTC at ARC. You can reach her by e-mail at delappj@arc.losrios.edu or by phone at 916-484-8961.
