As an undergrad I majored in graphic arts with hopes of becoming a commercial photographer but that dream was cut short thanks to the military draft. Immediately after graduating I joined the Air Force and was lucky enough to go to flight school. Some six years later, I left the Air Force to enter graduate school at the University of Puget Sound with a goal of teaching design and art at the college level. I had just finished my MFA degree when I was recalled to fly again. I flew F-4's and F-111's and enjoyed the challenge as well as seeing the world. After 26 years, it was time to settle down with my family and pursue those earlier goals. I refreshed my design skills and began doing print and web design work. Looking back, one of my first jobs was with ConAgra Foods developing promotional campaigns for Act II Popcorn. In addition to pay, I received cases of popcorn. The design business has its perks! It was also the early days of the web and a business partner and I knew we could make it big in this emerging medium. Our first hit was an online cookbook. We considered an auction site but knew that it would never catch on…oh well! My desire to teach was strong and ultimately lead me to a part-time job at American River College in 1998 where I taught night and weekend classes in Art New Media. I joined the faculty of the Design Department at UC Davis in 1999 and continue there as a lecturer. My personal design work focuses on web and print design for non-profit organizations. I teach digital design, multimedia, web, and Flash.
