Jim Zazzera is a freelance graphic & web designer working with Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
Jim’s approach to teaching and learning Art New Media is based on a number of assumptions.
First, design is not about “pretty pictures” and “cool effects” but about solving problems and expressing ideas. It is easy to become enamored of tools (like Photoshop) to the detriment of the purpose of our compositions. Jim’s classes encourage students to consider the purpose of his or her visual work.
Secondly, anyone can learn the language and tools of art and design. Visual expression is not a magical priesthood with limited membership, but open to all who would make the effort to learn its principles and tools. While it is true that few become masters, we can all develop greater ability with visual expression.
Finally, we are part of a learning community. When instructors and students work together the educational experience becomes richer for us all. We are not isolated individuals but learners together as we solve problems, express ideas, and encourage each other in the use of visual media. Jim’s classes seek to draw on the resources of the whole community in the learning process.
