Matthew has two degrees in Fine Arts. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from State University of New York College at Fredonia in 1999, and a Master of Fine Arts from Ohio University in 2002. In each program he studied contemporary sculpture, and had an emphasis with ceramics and drawing.  During Matthew's three year residence at Ohio University he integrated digital media with his physical sculptures. His investment with digital media ranges from digital audio manipulation to three-dimensional animation.

Since his early days creating sculpture, three-dimensional art has been his focus, whether it was physical or digital. As he committed more of his time and energy to 3D animation, Matthew gradually desired to work with film and game graphics. The digital medium offered him boundless possibilities of space and object manipulation, with the addition of time and movement. Within his work, Matthew desires compelling, transitory imagery. He is constantly developing his understanding of spacial relationships and the values of form.

In the classroom, Matthew upholds traditional art skills as the foundation of all digital media. Often he will advise individual students to study photography, drawing, dance, theatre, painting, the figure, and non-figurative sculpture. Matthew enjoys energy and challenges of the 3D animation and of the classroom. It's not only a learning environment for the student body, but also a learning environment and experience for Matthew.
